Pliable premiered at Ballhaus Ost as a part of the 5th edition of Dirty Debut. This piece used Kinbaku, Japanese rope binding, as a framing device to talk about pain. Djibril switches between monologue and and choreography with his duet partner, Elio, to explore how trauma can disassociate one from how pleasurable the body can be. He posits that deep and sustained communal care is how we recover from trauma and through this, we can locate feeling in our bodies again. Djibril asks how does our understanding of pain change once we to embody it in a literal sense? What does it look like to ground ourselves near the source of hurt? What does it mean to embody a sensation and then suspend it over a stage?
